This 5K series is a summer running series through the beautiful Gilbert Tuhabonye Trail located in southwest Travis County. We are planning three races this year (6/19/2022, and 7/17/2022). There will also be a kiddie 1 mile run, free for everyone 10 years and younger .

Gilbert has coached the St, Andrews Cross Country team through five state championships running on this beautiful trail. This will be 2nd annual installment of this summer series.

Gilbert Tuhabonye is a Burundian long-distance runner, author, and motivational speaker. He was born in Songa, a town in the Commune of Songa, Burundi, where he survived a massacre during the Burundian Civil War. Watch Gilbert’s story on NBC’s Today Show here.

The Race

The Gilbert Tuhabonye Trail 5K race is open to all runners or all ages. The first 100 registrants will receive a T-Shirt and there will be prizes for the top finishers in each age group.

Distance: 5K and 1 mile for 10 years and under

Start Time: 7:00am

Start: Cross country mass start style

Parking: More than sufficient parking on-site

Packet Pickup: Race morning beginning at 6:15am

 The Trail

The Gilbert Tuhabonye Trail is a well maintained private grass/dirt trail located on St. Andrews school property in southwest Travis County. This race allows for a unique running experience that is not normally open to the public. The trail is well shaded and mostly grass with a gentle downhill slope near the finish. You will be running on a Certified XC Trail and will finish in the picturesque St. Andrews school track.
